Marzocca and Thoden Each Have Eight Points in Victory over Elmira

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Senior midfielder's Nicole Marzocca* (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Christy Thoden* (Bayport, N.Y.) each had a team-leading eight points in the 22-11 non-conference victory over Elmira this afternoon. The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 6-4 on the year with the win.

Tied 2-2 early in the first half, senior midfielder Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals to put the Rams ahead 4-2. After a Soaring Eagles (2-10) goal cut the deficit to 4-3, Farmingdale State responded with six unanswered scores to take a 10-4 lead with 8:46 remaining. Elmira senior midfielder Ashton Hogan (Shelburne, Ontario) responded with two straight unassisted goals to close within four, 10-6. Thoden ended the half with her third goal of the game to give Farmingdale State an 11-6 halftime advantage.

Leading 16-10 with 14:45 on the clock, the Rams again scored six straight to lead 22-10. Elmira tallied a late score as the Rams captured the non-conference game, 22-11.

Marzocca scored a team-high five goals, had three assists and nine draw controls, while Thoden had four goals, four assists and 12 draw controls. Senior attack Jackie Kennedy (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) had six points on one goal and five assists and Handel finished with four goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Kristen Ranaldo (Commack, N.Y.) scored three goals, while junior defender Kristine Minogue (Miller Place, N.Y.) caused a game-high four turnovers for the Rams.

Elmira was led by Hogan who recorded a game-high eight goals and added one assist.

Farmingdale State sophomore goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) stopped eight shots, while sophomore Lindsay Wargo (Madison, Conn.) had 13 saves for the Soaring Eagles.

The Rams next will travel to Maritime for a Skyline Conference game tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
