Rams Defeat Western Connecticut in First Ever Home Night Game

Farmingdale, N.Y. - In the first home night game in school history, the Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team earned a 19-8 non-conference victory over Western Connecticut this evening.

Leading 4-3 with 19:26 remaining in the first half, senior attack Kelly Geheran (Sayville, N.Y.) scored off Alyssa Handel's (Medford, N.Y.) pass to put the Rams (2-2) ahead by two. Farmingdale State followed with three unanswered goals by senior midfielder Christy Thoden* (Bayport, N.Y.), sophomore attack Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) to extend their advantage to 8-3.

With 12:31 left on the clock, Western Connecticut (3-3) senior attack Kelsey Heaton (New Milford, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 8-4. Only three minutes later, Rosino tallied her third goal of the game to bring the Rams lead back to five, 9-4. Each team added a goal with less than two minutes remaining in the half as Farmingdale State took a 10-5 advantage into halftime.

The Rams opened the second half with nine consecutive goals to open up a 19-5 lead and put the game out of reach. The Colonials added three late scores but fell, 19-8.

Handel finished with a game-high six points on two goals and four assists, while Thoden had three goals, two assists, nine draw controls and five ground balls. Rosino and senior midfielder Nicole Marzocca* (North Babylon, N.Y.) each tallied three goals and one assist and Geheran totaled three goals.

Western Connecticut was led by Heaton who recorded a team-high five points with four goals and one assist to go along with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Farmingdale State sophomore goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) stopped 15 shots in the win.

The Rams next will host Mount Saint Vincent in their Skyline Conference opener on Saturday, March 28th at 1:00 p.m.
