Farmingdale, N.Y. - The women's lacrosse team captured the Skyline Conference Championship for the second time in school history with a 9-8 victory over St. Joseph's. The Rams traveled to Salisbury University for the NCAA's but fell, 18-7, to the defending National Champion Sea Gulls. Farmingdale State finished the year with a program-best 18-2 record.
The Rams had eight players named All-Conference as junior midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) topped the list as the Skyline Player of the Year. First Team selections included Thoden, junior attack Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Nicole Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.), while sophomore attack Kimberly Pepe (Levittown, N.Y.), freshman attack Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore defenders Jacqueline LaMay (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Sara Rivadeneyra (Ridge, N.Y.) were all named to the Second Team.
Thoden, who was also named First Team All-Boardwalk Region and Second Team All-ECAC, set the single-season school record for draw controls with 155. She tallied 85 points on 46 goals and 39 assists, while picking up a team-high 67 ground balls and causing 50 turnovers. Marzocca, a Second Team All-Boardwalk Region selection, led Farmingdale State offensively with team-high's in goals (59) assists (47) and points (106).
Handel recorded 42 goals and 14 assists, while Pepe scored 31 goals, including a team-high five game-winners.
The Rams had nine players who scored double-digit goals on the year.
Head coach Erin Calkins was named the Skyline Conference Coach of the Year.
Farmingdale State graduated only one senior this year.
