Salisbury, Md. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team fell 18-7 to #2 Salisbury University today in Second Round action of the 2014 Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The Rams program best season ends at 18-2 overall, while the Sea Gulls (19-1) advance to face Augustana (Ill.) next Saturday in the NCAA Regional Semifinals.

After sophomore attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored the opening goal at 27:49 for a 1-0 Farmingdale State lead, the Rams could not get the offensive plays together and allowed seven unanswered goals over the next 20 minutes to trail 7-1. In the second, junior midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) connected off a pass from Handel to cut the deficit to five, 8-3. Sea Gulls Shelby Nemecek responded to push the lead back to six, before junior midfielder Nicole Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored her first of the day to make it 9-4.

The Sea Gulls tabbed three straight goals for an eight-goal advantage, but the Rams got back to within six, after two straight goals by Thoden and Marzocca. Salisbury put the game out of reach as they scored six more for a running clock. The final goal for the Rams came from freshman attack Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) to make it 18-7.

Farmingdale State's Thoden finished with eight draws to bring her career total to 401 draws, along with two goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Lisa Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) led the Rams with three caused turnovers. Marzocca notched two scores to improve her record-setting points this season to 106. Handel had one goal, one assist for the day, while freshman goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) finished with 13 saves in defeat.
