Fast Start Leads Rams Past Dolphins

Farmingdale State - 16, Mount Saint Vincent - 8


Yonkers, N.Y. - After allowing an early goal, Farmingdale State scored eight unanswered on their way to a 16-8 Skyline win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday. The Rams improved to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in conference action, while the Dolphins fell to 3-5, 1-2.

The Rams took an 8-2 lead into the halftime break after junior midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Lisa Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) each scored two goals.

Farmingdale State extended their lead to 12-5 with 18:51 remaining, before Mount Saint Vincent responded with a pair of scores to cut the deficit to five. Junior midfielder Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.) and junior attack Kelly Geheran (Sayville, N.Y.) answered with two goals in 59 seconds to put the Rams ahead 15-7 with 7:58 left on the clock.

Each team scored one time over the final minutes as Farmingdale State won their fifth straight game.

Olen scored three goals, had six draw controls, four ground balls and caused two turnovers, while Geheran tallied three scores. Thoden recorded a game-high five points on two goals and three assists and had eight draw controls for the Rams.

The Dolphins were led by senior midfielder Colleen Walsh's (Manchester, VT) team-high two goals.

The women's lacrosse team next will travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a Skyline game on Saturday, April 5th at noon.
