Steady Second Half Leads Rams over Guilford

Greensboro, N.C. - After holding Guilford scoreless over the final nine minutes, the Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team came away with a 20-18 victory on Thursday night at the Armfield Athletic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.

A high scoring first half with five ties and three lead changes, the teams were tied 13-13 at the break. The Rams opened the scoring in the second half with a goal from junior midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.), assisted by sophomore attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) for the 14-13 lead.

Guilford answered with two straight goals for the 15-14 edge, before Farmingdale State scored the next two to grab back the 16-15 advantage. Guilford again scored two straight to take a 17-16 lead, but junior Nicole Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) would tie the game at 17-17 with 10:22 left to play.

Thirty seconds later, Guilford's Lily Colley gave her team their final lead, 18-17, and Farmingdale State freshman attack Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) tied it again at 18-18 just a minute later. Over the final nine minutes, the Rams controlled the ball and scored two more with the game-winner by Marzocca assisted by Thoden and the insurance goal from Rosino assisted by junior attack Jackie Kennedy (Massapequa Park, N.Y.).

For Farmingdale State, Marzocca led with six goals, two assists and two draws, while Thoden had four goals, five assists and 10 draw controls. Rosino scored a career-high five goals, sophomore defender Sara Rivadeneyra (Ridge, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high five ground balls.

Freshman goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) finished with 15 saves for the win.

The Rams will now host Maritime College on Saturday, March 29th in a Skyline Conference game at 1:00 p.m.
