Rams Win First Game of Spring Break Trip

Greensboro, N.C. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team won the first game of their Spring Break trip to North Carolina with a victory over Greensboro College on Tuesday afternoon. In wet and muddy conditions, the Rams (8-1) held an 8-5 lead at the half and took the eventual 13-10 win.

In the first half and tied 2-2, the Pride (7-5) pulled ahead 4-2 with two unassisted goals by junior attack Nadya Fedun (Fredericksburg, Va.). Farmingdale State answered with four straight scores for a 6-4 advantage, on goals by juniors Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.), Nicole Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Jackie Kennedy (Massapequa Park, N.Y.).

Sophomore attack Ashlynn Parks (Odenton, Md.) put Greensboro within a goal at the 7:03 mark, but the Rams scored two more to lead 8-5 at the halftime break.

Junior midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale State another four goal lead to open the second half, 9-5. Both teams traded two goal spurts, but the Rams came away with the win.

Handel finished with a team-high four goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Marzocca finished with three goals, three assists, four ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Thoden and Kennedy each tallied two goals and one assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the win, while Kaleigh Hemstock made six saves in defeat.
