Rams Remain Unbeaten with Win over UNE

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a 17-12 non-conference victory over the University of New England today. The Rams improved to 6-0, while the Nor'easters dropped to 4-2.

Farmingdale State took a quick 4-0 lead in the first five minutes, before UNE got on the board with two goals to make it 4-2 at 19:27. Junior midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) made it 5-2 Rams with a score off a pass from junior midfielder Nicole Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.). UNE cut the deficit to 5-3 with a free position goal by senior attack Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.).

Farmingdale scored four straight for a 9-3 advantage with 9:44 left in the half, but allowed the next four goals to lead by just two, 9-7 at the two minute mark. The Rams would hold a 10-7 lead at the halftime break.

Thoden and sophomore attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) connected at 27:45 to give Farmingdale an 11-7 lead and UNE scored two straight to make it 11-9. That would be the closest they would get the rest of the way as the Rams scored 6 of the final 9 goals to secure the win.

Freshman goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) made 17 saves in the win. Thoden led for Farmingdale State with five goals, two assists, seven ground balls and six draw controls. Junior midfielder Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.) finished with four goals and one assist. Sanchez dished out three assists and junior attack Jackie Kennedy (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) finished with a team-high four assists for the day.

The Rams will travel to face Montclair State on Thursday, March 20th for a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m.
