Women's Lacrosse Runs Past Manhattanville

Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a 20-3 non-conference victory over Manhattanville College (0-2) this afternoon at Valiants Field in Purchase, N.Y. The Rams were led by five points from junior midfielder Nicole Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) and junior attack Jackie Kennedy (Massapequa Park, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State opened the scoring with a goal from junior midfielder Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.) just 46 seconds in for the 1-0 lead. The Valiants Meghann Haggerty evened the score with a free position goal two minutes later, but the rest of the way would be all Rams as they scored 12 straight to hold a 13-1 at the halftime break. Marzocca tallied four of her assists in the first half, while sophomore midfielder Lisa Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) notched her first career hat trick. Handel and sophomore attack Kimberly Pepe (Levittown, N.Y.) each scored two in the first half.

In the second, the Rams pushed the lead to 15-1 with two quick goals by junior midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) and Kennedy. Manhattanville was able to score two in the half, but Farmingdale State cruised to the win.

For Farmingdale State, Kennedy finished with two goals and two assists, while Marzocca tied her career high of five assists. Thoden and freshman attack Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) each posted two goals and two assists. Pepe tallied a hat trick and Olen totaled a team-high five draw controls to add to her three goals.

The Rams will now travel to Western Connecticut for a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 12th at 4:00 p.m.
