Farmingdale State - 16, Marywood - 5


Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior midfielders Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.), Nicole Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) led the Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team to a 16-5 victory over Marywood University today. The Rams improved to 2-0 with the win, while the Pacers fell to 0-3.

Farmingdale State held a 4-0 advantage after the first 15 minutes thanks to scores by Thoden, Marzocca and two by Handel. Senior midfielder Kimberly Commisso (Milford, Pa.) broke the shutout for Marywood at 14:53, before Marzocca tabbed three of the next four goals for the Rams to take an 8-1 advantage. The Pacers score two more goals in the first, but Farmingdale State added one more and led 9-3 at the break.

In the second, Handel scored two straight goals to give the Rams an 11-3 lead, followed by two goals from Marzocca to make it 13-3. Farmingdale added three more the rest of the way, while holding Marywood to just two goals for the final 16-5 victory.

Handel finished with five goals and two assists, while Marzocca tallied six goals and one assist along with four draw controls. Thoden caused a team-leading seven turnovers, picked up six ground balls, and had five draw controls, one goal and one assist. Freshmen Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.), Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Emilia Moore (Baldwin, N.Y.) netted their first collegiate goals in the contest.

For the Pacers, Commisso totaled two goals, five ground balls and four draw controls. Sophomore defender Mary Ninivaggi (Rockaway, N.J.) caused four turnovers and freshman goalkeeper Lauren Smith (Lansdale, Pa.) saved 14 shots in defeat.

The Rams will now travel to face Manhattanville College on Saturday, March 8th at 1:00 p.m.
