Rams Lax Duo Will Take Talents Overseas

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior midfielders Nicole Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) are ready to represent Farmingdale State College and the USA on a ten day tour this summer from Paris to Amsterdam with American International Sports Tours (AIST).

The duo will play on the 19-player roster made up of players from Division I - Albany and Temple; Division II - Bloomsburg and Chestnut Hill; and Division III schools - Farmingdale State, Marymount, Shenandoah, St. Mary's (Md.) and Wittenberg.

Marzocca and Thoden will certainly be an asset for the team on the tour. Both players have already stamped the record books after just two seasons and are on track to leave as the all-time leading scorers at Farmingdale State, among multiple other record stats.

Marzocca, a two-time All-Skyline selection, is ranked 3rd offensively at FSC with 159 career points, which includes 105 goals and 54 assists. She currently holds an average of 5.00 points per game, which ranks #1 for the Rams career records. She also is ranked 2nd all-time for goals per game (3.26), 3rd for points (159), 4th for assists (54) and game-winning goals (4) and 5th for goals (105) and Draws (67).

Thoden also is a two-time All-Skyline selection and is 5th on the offensive list at FSC with 142 career points (77 goals and 65 assists). Last season she was also an ECAC All-Star and IWLCA All-Region selection, along with being named to the Farmingdale State Top-10 at the annual athletic banquet. Thoden holds school records for career draw controls (246), caused turnovers (84), game-winning goals (13) and assists per game (1.97). She also carries the 2nd most career ground balls (122), 3rd most points per game (4.30) and assists (65) and the 5th most goals per game (2.33).

AIST has been taking top level athletes to compete in international tournaments in more than 22 different countries since 2002. The tour receives invitations to participate in tournaments from around the world. Most of the tournaments have national teams competing as well as local club teams. They also set up exhibition games when possible before tournaments to give the athltes more opportunity to compete. Most of the teams will get between 5-7 games in a ten day period. The rest of the tour involves sightseeing and cultural education.
