Rams Fall to Montclair State in Skyline Finals

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Montclair State won the Skyline Conference Championship after earning a 16-13 win over Farmingdale State in the Finals this afternoon. The Red Hawks captured the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Trailing 10-7 to start the second half, sophomore attack Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored off the pass from sophomore defender Mary Armstrong (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 10-8. A pair of Montclair State goals by junior midfielder Kelly Schoneveld (Denville, N.J.) and sophomore midfielder Jenna Bussiere (Dayton, N.J.) put the Red Hawks ahead 12-8 with 24:41 remaining. Farmingdale State used a free position score by freshman midfielder Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) and a Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) unassisted goal to pull within two, 12-10. Schoneveld responded with two straight Montclair State goals to put the Red Hawks advantage back at four, 14-10. Senior attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) answered for Farmingdale State with a free position goal and Thoden scored at the 9:14 mark to close within 14-12. Montclair State added two unassited goals to put the game out of reach en route to the 16-13 victory.

The Rams were led by Marzocca who had five goals, three draw controls and caused three turnovers, while Thoden tallied three goals, one assist and six draw controls.

Sophomore attack Tierney Conlon (Caldwell, N.J.) had a game-high six goals and two assists, while Schoneveld added five scores for Montclair State.

The Rams finish the season with a 15-3 record.
