2013 Women's Lacrosse Season Recap

- Rams Post Record Numbers in 2013 -


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team and first year head coach, Erin Calkins, broke six school records this season. The Rams posted record numbers for wins, points, goals scored, assists, draw controls and caused turnovers.

Farmingdale State finished 15-3 overall and fell in the Skyline Championship game to Montclair State. The Rams went 10-0 in conference play, claiming the regular-season Skyline Title for just the second time in school history.

Sophomore attack Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) led the scoring with career-high numbers, both finishing with 92 poitns. Marzocca broke the school record for goals in a season with 58. Thoden posted 38 goals and 54 assists, breaking the school record for caused turnovers, assists, points and draw controls.

Senior attack and captain Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) finished with 42 goals and 16 assists this year. Sophomore midfielder Jackie Kennedy (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) tallied 19 goals, while sophomore midfielder Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.) scored 30 goals.

Defensively, senior captain Jillian Pironti (Seaford, N.Y.), junior Tatiana Pena (Hicksville, N.Y.) and freshmen Jacqueline LaMay (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Sarah Gerner (Levittown, N.Y.) anchored the Rams. Freshman goalkeeper Thalia Medina (Brentwood, N.Y.) finished 13-3 between the pipes with 73 saves and a 10.33 goals against average.

Farmingdale State will return the core of their roster for next year, losing just two seniors to graduation.
