Balanced Attack Leads Rams to Tenth Win

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Nine different players scored for the Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team today in a 19-15 non-conference victory over New Paltz State (3-5). The Rams improved to 10-2 overall, winning their seventh straight.

Farmingdale State held a 12-7 lead at the half, behind two goals and two assists from sophomore midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.). New Paltz opened the scoring 1:03 into the game with a goal from sophomore midfielder Lianne Valdivia (Kingston, N.Y.), before the Rams took their first lead of the game with two goals, one from freshman attack Kimberly Pepe (Levittown, N.Y.) and one from Thoden.

Valdivia evened the scored just eight seconds later, but a four-goal streak by Farmingdale State gave them a 6-2 advantage and New Paltz would respond with two goals to cut the deficit to 6-4. The Rams again scored four straight goals, in a 1:56 span, to push the lead to six and would lead by five at the break.

In the second, Farmingdale State led by at least four the entire half, leading by as much as eight (16-8 with 17:18 remaining). Senior attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) scored the first three goals of the half and also added an assist to give the Rams their largest margin of the day.

Schneider and Thoden each finished with a team-high four goals, while Thoden also added three assists, six draw controls, six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) recorded three goals, two assists, six draws and two caused turnovers. Defensively, freshman Jacqueline LaMay (Huntington Station, N.Y.) caused four turnovers and picked up four ground balls, while freshman goalkeeper Thalia Medina (Brentwood, N.Y.) made five saves for the win.

For New Paltz, Valdivia posted a school record seven goals and tied the school record of nine points. Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Ulanoff (Northport, N.Y.) made 14 saves in defeat.

The Rams will host Montclair State on Saturday, April 13th at 1:00 p.m. The game will mark the final regular-season home game and will be Senior Day for Carly Schneider and Jillian Pironti (Seaford, N.Y.).
