Rams Defeat St. Joe's; Remain Perfect in Skyline

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 7-0 in the Skyline Conference with a 16-12 home win over St. Joseph's this afternoon. Farmingdale State is now 9-2 overall, while the Golden Eagles fell to 8-4, 5-1.

St. Joe's scored the first two goals only 2:28 into the game to take an early 2-0 lead. The Rams responded with seven unanswered scores to open up a 7-2 advantage with 17:26 remaining in the first half. St. Joe's pulled within 7-4, before sophomore attack Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored three straight goals for Farmingdale State to extend the lead to 10-4. St. Joe's closed the half with a pair of goals as the Rams took a 10-6 lead into the break.

Farmingdale State held a 13-9 lead with 10:29 remaining, before freshman midfielder Jessica Cordano (Oakdale, N.Y.) scored two goals and junior midfielder Karalyn Tetelman (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored once to pull the Golden Eagles within one, 13-12, with 6:51 to play. Senior attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) put the Rams back up two 42 seconds later as she scored off the feed from sophomore midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.). Marzocca tallied the final two goals of the game as the Rams won 16-12.

Marzocca had a game-high eight points with six goals and two assists and also added five draw controls and caused three turnovers. Thoden scored two goals, had three assists and caused four turnovers, while Schneider had three goals and one assist. Freshman goalkeeper Thalia Medina (Brentwood, N.Y.) made eight saves in the victory.

St. Joe's was led by Cordano who scored three goals and added one assist and freshman attack Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y.) who tallied three goals.

The Rams next will travel to New Paltz State for a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 9th at 3:00 p.m.
