Early Scoring Leads Rams Past Kean

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Five straight goals in the first seven minutes gave the Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team a 5-0 cushion, as they went on to an 18-9 conference victory over Kean University today in Farmingdale. N.Y. The Rams improved to 8-2 overall, 6-0 in the Skyline with the win, while the Cougars fell to 6-4, 2-3.

Sophomore attack Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) opened the scoring with 27:43 left in the first, while freshman attack Kimberly Pepe (Levittown, N.Y.) scored the Rams' second goal of the day off a pass from senior defender Jillian Pironti (Seaford, N.Y.). Sophomore midfielder Jackie Kennedy (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) tallied Farmingdale's third goal with an assist from senior attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.).

Sophomore midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) scored the next two goals and the Rams held the early 5-0 advantage.

Kean scored two free position goals over the next five minutes, cutting the deficit to 5-2 with 18:07 remaining in the first, but Farmingdale State would outscore the Cougars 5-4 the rest of the half to hold a 10-6 lead at the break.

Schneider, Marzocca and Kennedy each scored in the first six minutes of the second and the Rams would only allow three goals in the half.

Marzocca finished with a team-high five goals, while Thoden grabbed 12 draw controls and caused four turnovers. Schneider finished with four goals and two assists, while Kennedy tabbed three goals and one assist. Freshman goalkeeper Thalia Medina (Brentwood, N.Y.) made seven saves for the win.

For Kean, senior midfielder Lyndsey Cannon (Delran, N.J.) scored five goals, while senior goalkeeper Jules Keeley (Ocean Twp., N.J.) made nine saves in defeat.

The Rams will now host St. Joseph's (L.I.) in a Skyline Conference game on Sunday, April 7th at Noon.
