Bowser, Walker Lead #7 Tufts Past Rams

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Brigid Bowser (Westborough, Mass.) scored four goals and had two assists and sophomore midfielder Lindsey Walker (Suffern, N.Y.) had four goals and added one assist as seventh-ranked Tufts earned a 16-7 victory over Farmingdale State this afternoon.

Trailing 4-1 midway through the first half, sophomore midfielder Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.) scored a free position goal for the Rams (3-2) to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Jumbos (3-1) scored four unanswered goals over the final 13:35 to take an 8-2 advantage into the break.

Leading 13-3, Bowser converted back-to-back free position attempts to put Tufts ahead 15-3 with 13:01 to play. Sophomore attack Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) each scored a pair of goals for Farmingdale State in the closing minutes but the Rams fell 16-7.

Marzocca, Sanchez and Handel each tallied two goals, while sophomore midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) had a goal and an assist. Senior defender Jillian Pironti (Seaford, N.Y.) caused a team-high three turnovers and picked up three ground balls for Farmingdale State.

Senior goalkeeper Tess Shapanka (Sudbury, Mass.) had eight saves, allowing only three goals in 47 minutes of action for Tufts.

The Rams next will travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a Skyline Conference game on Thursday, March 21st at 7:00 p.m.
