Rams Drop OT Thriller at Oneonta

Oneonta, N.Y. - Oneonta outscored Farmingdale State 3-2 in overtime as the Red Dragons earned a 15-14 non-conference win Saturday afternoon. The Rams dropped their first game of the season and hold a 3-1 record, while Oneonta improved to 3-1.

Tied 6-6 to start the second half, the Red Dragons scored three consecutive goals to take a 9-6 lead with 19:28 remaining. Farmingdale State responded with free position scores by freshman midfielder Kristen Ranaldo (Commack, N.Y.) and freshman attack Kimberly Pepe (Levittown, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 9-8.

With 6:25 remaining in regulation, Oneonta junior midfielder Casey Sarle (West Islip, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to again tie the game 11-11. Senior attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) scored for Farmingdale State with 3:43 on the clock to give the Rams a 12-11 lead. Sophomore midfielder Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored with four seconds remaining to tie the game at 12-12 and force overtime.

Tied 13-13 in overtime, Schneider put the Rams ahead with 1:13 to play as she scored an unassisted goal. The Red Dragons answered with a pair of goals including the game winner by sophomore attack Kiera McNally (East Northport, N.Y.) with only 23 seconds remaining.

Schneider and sophomore attack Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) each scored three goals and tallied one assist for Farmingdale State, while Pepe and Ranaldo each had two goals.

Oneonta was led by Donodeo who had a game-high five goals and senior attack Caroline Tulley (Malverne, N.Y.) who had seven points on four goals and three assists.

The Rams next will host Tufts in a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 19th at 4:00 p.m.
