Rams Improve to 3-0 with win over West Conn

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 this afternoon with a 16-9 victory over Western Connecticut (1-1) in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams opened the scoring with an unassisted goal from senior attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) and would never look back in the non-conference win.

The Colonials tied the game 1-1 a minute after Schneider's opening goal, before Farmingdale State would score four straight goals to build up the quick 5-1 lead with 21:42 remaining in the first half. Western Connecticut made it 5-3 with two goals over the next two minutes, but would not get any closer as the Rams held them to just two more first half goals and led 9-5 at the break.

In the second, Farmingdale State added seven more goals, winning 9-of-12 draw controls to roll towards their 3rd win of the year. Sophomore attack Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) led the Rams with five goals, three assists and three caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) won 11 draw controls and added four goals and one assist. Schneider finished the day with two goals, five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

For Western Connecticut, senior attack Devon Edwards (Islip, N.Y.) finished with four draws, three goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Emily Brooks (Kingston, N.Y.) scored three goals and forced two turnovers. Junior goalkeeper Karli Portnoy (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) made 10 saves in defeat.

The Rams will now go on a road trip to face Oneonta State on Saturday, March 16th for a non-conference game at 1:00 p.m., before returning home to host Tufts on Tuesday, March 19th at 4:00 p.m.
