Thoden Leads Rams Past Montclair State

Montclair, N.J. - Freshman midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) scored a game-high five goals leading Farmingdale State to a 13-7 Skyline Conference victory over Montclair State this afternoon. The Rams improved to 5-1, 1-0 in the Skyline, while the Red Hawks fell to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Farmingdale State held a 6-2 halftime advantage as they were led by Thoden and junior attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) who each scored two goals.

Montclair State's sophomore midfielder Kelly Schoneveld (Denville, N.J.) scored a man-up goal only 46 seconds after to break to cut the deficit to 6-3. The Rams responded with back-to-back goals by Thoden to open up an 8-3 lead with 24:47 remaining. The Red Hawks closed within three, 8-5, before two straight goals by senior attack Krystin Shand (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale State a 10-5 advantage. The Rams held at least a five goal lead over the final 10 minutes en route to the 13-7 victory.

Thoden had six points on five goals and an assist and picked up four ground balls. Shand scored three goals and had one assist, while freshman midfielder Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) tallied five points after scoring two goals and adding three assists. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Cook (Deer Park, N.Y.) recorded 12 saves in the victory for Farmingdale State.

The Red Hawks were led by Schoneveld and senior midfielder Cora Delfini (New Egypt, N.J.) who each scored two goals, while junior attack Kailee Breal (Succasunna, N.J.) had a game-high 10 draw controls.

The Rams next will host Maritime in a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, March 28th at 4:00 p.m.
