Rams Fall in Overtime to Oneonta

Oneonta State – 14, Farmingdale State – 13 (OT)


Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team fell 14-13 in overtime to visiting Oneonta State today in a non-conference game held in Farmingdale, N.Y. This marked the Rams first loss of the season, falling to 4-1, while the Red Dragons remain undefeated at 4-0.

Oneonta led 8-4 at the half, behind senior attack Rebecca Monteith's (West Islip, N.Y.) five goals and one assist. They added two unassisted goals from freshman attack Kiera McNally (East Northport, N.Y.) in the first eight minutes of the second half and would hold the 10-4 advantage, before the Rams scored six unanswered goals to tie the game at 10-10.

A free position goal from freshman midfielder Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) with 21:34 left to play started the rally for Farmingdale State. Her goal was followed 30 seconds later by a goal from junior attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) off a pass from senior attack Krystin Shand (Massapequa Park, N.Y.). Under a minute later, sophomore midfielder Jordyn Hasemann (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tallied her first goal of the day, an unassisted goal with 19:21 remaining. Marzocca scored the next two goals for a 10-9 score and Shand would tie the game at 10-10 with 12:16 on the clock.

Oneonta's Monteith broke the tie with a goal at 10:29 and McNally would add an insurance goal for the Red Dragons for a 12-10 lead. But the Rams were not done yet as Marzocca scored a man-up goal at the 5-minute mark to make it 12-11 and freshman midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) scored with 2:34 to play for another tie game, 12-12, forcing the overtime period.

In overtime, the Rams took their first lead of the game, 13-12, on a goal from Hasemann with 3:06 on the clock. A man-up goal by senior midfielder Heidi Kissinger (East Islip, N.Y.), assisted by Monteith, tied the game once again at 13-13, before the game-winner came with 1:07 remaining, scored by junior attack Caroline Tulley (Malverne, N.Y.) for a 14-13 victory for Oneonta.  

Marzocca led Farmingdale State with six goals, while Oneonta was led by Monteith with six goals and two assists. Red Dragons senior goalkeeper Annelise Muscietta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made nine saves for the win, while senior goalkeeper Courtney Cook (Deer Park, N.Y.) made 11 saves in defeat for Farmingdale State.

The Rams will now travel and open their conference schedule on Saturday, March 24 against Montclair State at 1:00 p.m.
