Rams Remain Unbeaten on Thoden's Free Position Goal

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal for Farmingdale State with 26 seconds remaining in regulation. The Rams took a 12-11 lead on Thoden's free position goal and added another score with .7 seconds on the clock en route to a 13-11 non-conference victory over New Paltz State.

Tied 6-6 with 20:31 remaining in the second half, Farmingdale State (4-0) regained the lead as junior attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) scored off the pass from senior attack Krystin Shand (Massapequa Park, N.Y.). The Rams increased the lead to 8-6 as sophomore midfielder Jordyn Hasemann (Farmingdale, N.Y.) netted a man-up goal after being setup by Shand's pass.

New Paltz (2-2) cut the deficit to 9-8 with 11:12 to play before Schneider and freshman midfielder Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals for the Rams. Freshman midfielder Carissa Citro (Miller Place, N.Y.) pulled the Hawks within two, 11-9, as she scored a free position goal with 3:25 left on the clock. Sophomore attack Talia Tesler (Rochester, N.Y.) scored the games next two goals for the Hawks to even the score at 11-11 with 1:25 remaining. Thoden sealed the victory for Farmingdale State with her free position goal with 26 seconds left in the game.

The Rams were led by Schneider who scored a game-high five goals, while Hasemann added four scores. Shand had a game-high five assists and Marzocca tallied three points on two goals and an assist. Thoden picked up 10 ground balls, had 10 draw controls and caused five turnovers for the Rams.

Freshman midfielder Lianne Valdivia (Kingston, N.Y.) had a team-high four goals for New Paltz, while Tesler and Citro each scored two goals and had one assist.

Senior goalkeeper Courtney Cook (Deer Park, N.Y.) made seven saves in the win, while senior goalie Stefanie Mignone (Farmingville, N.Y.) had 11 saves in defeat.

Farmingdale State next will host Oneonta in a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 20th at 4:00 p.m.
