Marzocca Leads Rams Past Hartwick

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y) scored a game-high five goals to lead Farmingdale State to a 12-7 non-conference victory over Hartwick. The Rams improved to 2-0, while the Hawks fell to 2-1 on the season.

Junior attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) scored the games opening goal for Farmingdale State to give the Rams an early 1-0 lead three minutes into the contest. Hartwick junior attack Erin Doyle (Syracuse, N.Y.) tied the game at 1-1 as she scored a free position goal at the 22:59 mark. Farmingdale State scored four unanswered goals, including two by Marzocca, to open up a 5-1 advantage with 12:47 remaining in the half. Each team scored two goals apiece over the final minutes of the half as the Rams took a 7-3 lead into the break.

In the second half, Farmingdale State freshman midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) and Schneider each added a goal to put the Rams ahead 9-3. Hartwick would answer with three consecutive goals to cut the deficit to 9-6 with 16:43 remaining. Marzocca added her fourth score of the game seven minutes later to give the Rams a 10-6 advantage. Farmingdale State would add two goals over the final 3:26 to cap off a 12-7 non-conference victory.

Senior attack Krystin Shand (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) tallied four points on three assists and one goal, while Schneider and junior midfielder Jillian Pironti (Seaford, N.Y.) each added two goals and an assist for the Rams. Thoden recorded game-highs in both draw controls with nine and ground balls with six.

Hartwick was led by senior midfielder Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, N.Y.) who scored two goals and had one assist, while sophomore attack Brittany McCabe (Manorville, N.Y.) had one goal and two assists for three points.

Senior goalkeeper Courtney Cook (Deer Park, N.Y.) had nine saves in the victory, while freshman goalie Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) made nine saves in defeat.

The Rams next will travel to Western Connecticut State on Wednesday, March 14th at 7:00 p.m.
