Schneider Nets Conference Game-Winner for Rams

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Sophomore attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) netted the eventual game-winner for Farmingdale State with 5:13 left in the second half, as the Rams (6-4, 5-0) held on for a 13-12 victory, defeating Kean University (6-6, 5-2) in today's Skyline Conference women's lacrosse game.
Farmingdale State built up a 6-1 lead in the first 20 minutes of play, before the Cougars rallied to score four goals before halftime and the Rams would lead at the half, 7-5. Kean opened the second with a goal in the first minute and would tie the game at 8-8 with a goal from sophomore attack Lyndsey Cannon (Delran, N.J.) at the 23-minute mark.
The Cougars took their first lead of the game, 9-8, on an unassisted goal from senior attack Amanda South (Fairless Hills, Pa.) with 22:25 left in the second. Sophomore midfielder Kim Lehmann (Albertson, N.Y.) responded with two straight goals for Farmingdale State, giving her team back the lead at 10-9. But South would score again for Kean, tying the game at 10-10 with 15 minutes left to play.
Sophomore midfielder Emily Williams (Centerport, N.Y.) put the Rams ahead, 11-10, just three minutes later, before Schneider connected on a pass from freshman midfielder Jordyn Hasemann (Farmingdale, N.Y.) to give Farmingdale a two-goal lead with under 10 minutes remaining.
Kean's Cannon made a free position shot with six minutes left to make it 12-11, but Schneider would add the insurance goal and eventual game-winner, her fifth goal of the day, to send the Rams to victory.
Junior goalkeeper Courtney Cook (Deer Park, N.Y.) made nine saves for the win. Williams finished with two goals and two assists, while Lehmann notched three goals for the day and caused three turnovers. Sophomore defender Jillian Pironti (Seaford, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high four ground balls and caused two turnovers, while also scoring one goal and one assist.
For Kean, South finished with a game-high six goals and Cannon scored four goals and one assist. Senior defender Erica Kelly (West Deptford, N.J.) grabbed a game-high five draw controls.
Farmingdale State will travel to face Ramapo College in another conference game on Wednesday, April 13th at 4:00 p.m.
