Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team defeated Kean University 24-16, this afternoon, advancing to their first ever Skyline Conference Championship game. The Rams improved to 10-3 on the season, while Kean fell to 6-11.

Kean took an early 2-1 lead, nine minutes into the game on an Amanda South (Fairless, Penn./Conwell-Egan Catholic) goal off the pass from Stephanie Cerino (Warminster, Penn./William Tennent). Farmingdale State responded scoring five goals over the next six minutes, holding a 6-2 advantage at the 14:07 mark. The Rams went into halftime with a 7-5 lead.

In the second, Farmingdale sophomore midfielder Caitlin Brown (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) scored two unassisted goals within the first two minutes, putting the Rams up 9-5. Farmingdale State held a 12 goal advantage with 14 minutes remaining and would go on to win 24-16, advancing to the Finals.

Senior midfielder Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) scored a team-high five goals and added one assist for the Rams. Freshman midfielder Shannon Reardon (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon), sophomore midfielders Brown and Justine Rothar (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.) and junior midfielder Kathy Waite (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.) each scored three goals. Sophomore midfielder Jackie Messina (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown) scored two goals, had two assists and picked up a team-high four ground balls for Farmingdale. Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Cook (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) saved a career-high 22 shots in the win.

Kean was led by Cirino and South, who each scored five goals, while freshman attack Nicole Torre (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) scored four times. Freshman goalie Gina Petrizzo (Hopatcong, N.J./Hopatcong) played 41 minutes in goal for the Cougars and made 6 saves.

The Rams will host the winner of #2 Montclair State and #3 Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, May 2nd, at a time yet to be determined.
