Rams Win Home Opener over Western Connecticut

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team won their home opener today, 20-8, over Western Connecticut (2-1). The Rams improved to 1-1 overall led by senior midfielder Theresa Rokee's (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) six goals and one assist.

Farmingdale State jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals by Justine Rothar (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.) and Rokee, before the Colonials scored three straight to take their only lead of the game, 3-2. The Rams responded with three straight goals and would lead the rest of the way, holding an 11-6 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Farmingdale held Western Connecticut to two goals and added nine more for the win. Junior midfielder Kathy Waite (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.) finished with five goals, Rothar had three goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Jackie Messina (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown) finished with three goals and a team-high four draw controls. Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Cook (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made 14 saves.

Western Connecticut was led by freshman attack Jessica Bouwman (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) with three goals. Freshman goalkeeper Mercedes Koehler (Bethel, Conn./Wooster School) made nine saves in her 25:42 minutes played.

The Rams will now host Manhattanville on Thursday, March 19th at 4:00 p.m.
