Women's Lacrosse 2009 Preview
- Last year's team lost just one senior to graduation -
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's
lacrosse team looks toward a big year after finishing the 2008
season with a 4-11 record, making their second straight appearance
in the Skyline Playoffs, and only losing one senior to
graduation.
The Rams bring back eight players from last year, including
sophomore midfielder Justine Rothar (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave),
who was named Second Team All-Skyline after leading the team in
scoring with 32 goals and 12 assists. Senior captain and midfielder
Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) returns for her final
season behind her 26 goals and team-leading 16 assists. Sophomore
defender Chelsea Bjornsson (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave) will
anchor the defense once again, after leading the team with 41
ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Jackie Messina (Smithtown,
N.Y./Smithtown) had a solid season of experience behind her and
will use her speed and toughness in the midfield to improve on last
years 31 draw controls.
Third year head coach Carrie Bolduc (Syracuse '99) and newly
appointed assistants Lisa Scansarole (former Division Ave. Head
Coach) and Erin Calkins (Eastern CT '07) have brought in a talented
crew of transfers and rookies. Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Cook
(Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) will takeover in goal after the loss of
Janine Forman to graduation. Other newcomers for the Rams will be
transfers Kathy Waite (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.), sophomore
midfielder Caitlin Brown (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon), along
with freshman attacker Jessica Madeloni (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park)
and freshman midfielder Shannon Reardon (North Babylon, N.Y./North
Babylon).
The Rams open up this Sunday, March 1st against Stevens in Hoboken, N.J. at 5:00 p.m. The game will be available to watch live. Video is free, you just need to create an account.
