Rams Secure No. 3 Seed with Win over Kean

Union, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team secured the No. 3 seed for the Skyline Playoffs next week with a 19-13 victory over Kean University on Saturday afternoon. The Rams are now 7-6 overall, 6-2 in conference play, while Kean is 7-8 overall, 5-3 in the Skyline.

Freshman midfielder Emily Williams (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) gave Farmingdale a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal at 28:42 and then a free position goal three minutes later. Kean's Lyndsey Cannon got the Cougars on the board with a free position goal a minute later for the 2-1 score. Rams sophomore attack Autumn Berndt (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) scored to make it 3-1 and Kean's Chelsea Davis notched the next two for Kean to tie the game at 3-3 halfway through the first half.

Freshman midfielder Ashley Tsirigotis (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip), junior attack Justine Rothar* (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.) and freshman attack Victoria Perullo (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) tallied the next three goals for Farmingdale to build up a 6-3 lead, and the Rams would lead the rest of the way to go on for the 19-13 victory.

Williams finished with six goals and one assist for a game-high seven points, while freshman Kim Lehmann (Albertson, N.Y./Herricks), Rothar and senior midfielder Kathy Waite* (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.) each tallied five points. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Caden (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) made eight saves in the win.

For Kean, Davis scored six goals, while Cannon finished with four goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Brittany Gibbs made four saves in 25 minutes of action, while Jules Keeley made three saves the rest of the way.

Farmingdale State will now host a Skyline Quarterfinal game on Tuesday, April 27th at 4:00 p.m. The winner advances to the Skyline Semifinals and will face No. 2 Ramapo on Thursday, April 29th.
