Rams Hold on for Win over Southern Maine

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 2-2 overall with a 15-14 non-conference victory over Southern Maine (0-4) today in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams and Huskies were back and forth all game with the lead never eclipsing three goals. Farmingdale freshman attacker Justine Rothar (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.) led the team with five goals and senior goalkeeper Janine Forman (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) made 21 saves for the win.

The Rams took a 6-5 lead into halftime and Rothar scored to put the team up 7-5 in the first minute. Southern scored the next three of four goals to tie it up at 8 all and Farmingdale reeled off three goals straight to take another lead, 11-8.

Sophomore midfielder Jessica Knight (Alfred, Me./Massabesic) would tally the next two goals for Southern Maine and cut her teams deficit back to 11-10 with 15:14 remaining in the game. Both teams would trade goals throughout the remainder of the second half, but the Rams held on for the 15-14 win.

Freshman midfielder Alecia Fuschetto (Melville, N.Y./Hills East) scored four goals for Farmingdale and had three draw controls, while Rothar led with a game-high five draw controls. Freshman midfielder Jaclyn Messina (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown) finished with two goals and two assists.

Southern Maine's Knight finished with six goals and one assist for the day. Senior goalkeeper Katie Quartuccio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Millbrook School) made 12 saves in defeat.

The Rams will now travel to play Montclair State on Monday, March 31st at 7:00 p.m. in their first Skyline Conference game of the season.
