Rams Strong Second Half Leads to Overtime Victory

Hackettstown, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 4-1 overall, 1-1 in the Skyline with a 16-15 overtime victory over Centenary College (3-3, 0-2) on Tuesday afternoon in Hackettstown, N.J. Rams senior Natalie Budinich (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) scored the game-winner just 44 seconds into overtime and Farmingdale held on for the win through the next five minutes of play.

Centenary scored the first three goals, before Rams sophomore Nicole Brett (Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) connected on free-position opportunity to cut the Cyclones lead to 3-1. Both teams traded off the next six goals and Centenary was still ahead 6-4 before scoring three straight to push their lead to 9-4. Farmingdale scored two more goals by freshman Janelle Reif (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Herricks) and sophomore Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) for a 9-6 score and Centenary added one more with 53 seconds left to hold a 10-6 advantage at the half.

The Rams came out in the second with three quick goals, Centenary added another, and then Farmingdale saw five straight goals from Budinich and Rokee to go up 14-11. The Cyclones tied it up at 14 with 1:16 left before senior Gina Shore (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem) scored on a breakaway pass from freshman Ashley Fallon (Northport, N.Y./Northport) for the 15-14 lead. But Centenary's Nicole Becker tied it up on a free-position shot with 23 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

Budinich's goal came in the first minute of play and the Rams were able to control the ball the rest of the way to push forward for their fourth victory of the season.

Farmingdale State will host Montclair State this Saturday, April 7th for another Skyline Conference game at Noon.
