FSC Drops Skyline Game at St. Joseph's-Long Island

St. Joseph's-Long Island - 56, Farmingdale State - 38


PATCHOGUE, N.Y. | Following an evenly played first half, St. Joseph's-Long Island outscored the Farmingdale State women's basketball team, 36-19, in the second half to earn a 56-38 Skyline victory on Saturday afternoon. 

The Rams trailed 7-2 in the first quarter before baskets by freshman guards Victoria Kantzian (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Adrianna Romo-Leroux (Selden, N.Y.) pulled them within one.

After the Golden Eagles connected on two free-throws, senior guard Emily Zeblisky (Northport, N.Y.) and Kantzian made layups to put FSC in front, 10-9.

St. Joseph's-Long Island was still down by one, 12-11, early in the second quarter but made a jumper and a free-throw to go in front, 14-12.

FSC responded with a 3-pointer by freshman forward Lissette Cordero (West Babylon, N.Y.) and a layup by sophomore guard Erin Conte (Melville, N.Y.) to take a three-point edge at 17-14.

The game was tied 21-21 just over a minute into the second half but Romo-Leroux knocked down a 3-pointer and Cordero made a layup to put the Rams ahead by five, 26-21.

The Golden Eagles answered with 14 consecutive points over the next five minutes to jump in front, 35-26.

SJLI led by nine, 37-28, and registered 19 fourth-quarter points as they went on for the 56-38 victory.

Kantzian tallied a team-high nine points and eight rebounds, while Cordero recorded seven points, five rebounds and a block. Conte produced six points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists off the bench and Romo-Leroux registered five points and six rebounds.

Lanyah Ford led the way for St. Joe's with a game-high 18 points.

The Farmingdale State women's basketball team will next close out their 2022-23 schedule with a home game against Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday, February 14th at 5:30 p.m. on Senior Night.
