Women's Basketball Falls to Yeshiva

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team battled visiting Yeshiva University in Skyline Conference competition Thursday night, holding a lead in the fourth period before the Maccabees captured a 64-50 decision over the Rams.

FSC (4-17, 3-13 Skyline) got 11 points from sophomore guard Jenna Pignataro (Farmingville, N.Y.), who scored in double figures for the second-straight contest, while sophomore guard Isabella Greenwald (W. Islip, N.Y.) knocked down a trio of 3-pointers off the bench for nine points. Sophomore guard Erin Conte (Melville, N.Y.) registered eight points and three steals, with junior forward Tiffany Sosa (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) filling the stat sheet with seven points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. 

After scoring the opening basket to start the game, the Rams were outscored 11-4 the remainder of the first quarter as they entered the second down by five.

FSC used a layup and 3-pointer by freshman forward Lissette Cordero (West Babylon, N.Y.; 6 pts., 12 reb.) to quickly tie the score at 11-all to open the second frame. Yeshiva (10-9, 7-8) led for the majority of the period, before back-to-back triples by Greenwald in the final 78 seconds sent the homestanding Rams into halftime with a 22-20 lead.

The Maccabees entered the fourth stanza up 35-34, Sosa's layup in the Rams' first offensive possession put her side back in front by one point 39 seconds after the resumption of play. YU collected the next 11 points of the contest, and the hosts could get no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Head coach Mark Dellecave's Farmingdale State squad will next travel to St. Joseph's-Long Island for a conference game on Saturday (Feb. 11) at noon.
