Balanced Offense Leads Rams Past Old Westbury

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team defeated Old Westbury, 61-50, in a Skyline Conference game in Farmingdale, N.Y. on Thursday evening. The Rams had four players record double-digit point totals as they picked up their third conference victory of the season.

FSC held a 10-8 advantage with under two minutes to play in the first quarter and used a jumper from junior forward Tiffany Sosa (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and a layup by sophomore guard Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.) to take a six-point lead, 14-8, into the second.

Farmingdale State still led by six, 18-12, midway through the second quarter and went on an 8-0 run, capped off by a Jenna Pignataro (Farmingville, N.Y.) jumper, to take a 26-12 advantage.

The Rams were in front, 29-18, at the break and opened the third quarter with two Sosa free-throws and a 3-pointer by freshman guard Adrianna Romo-Leroux (Selden, N.Y.) to take a commanding 16-point advantage, 34-18.

Old Westbury trailed by 10, 40-30, with eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and closed the gap to just five with a 3-pointer and a layup.

After trading baskets, Greenwald knocked down a 3-pointer for FSC to go back up by eight, 45-37, with five minutes on the clock.

Farmingdale State was in front, 49-42, and used four points by Romo-Leroux and a 3-pointer by freshman guard Victoria Kantzian (Staten Island, N.Y.) in a 7-0 run to increase the advantage to 14.

The Rams led by as many as 15 down the stretch as they earned the 61-50 Skyline victory.

Kantazian scored a career-best 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting, to go along with a game-high six steals. Sosa tallied 14 points, five rebounds, four steals and a block, while Romo-Leroux recorded career-bests with 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

Greenwald registered 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals off the bench and Pignataro had seven points, four rebounds and two assists.

Freshman forward Lissette Cordero (West Babylon, N.Y.) added six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal and senior guard Emily Zeblisky (Northport, N.Y.) grabbed six boards in the win.

The FSC defense held the Panthers to just 16-for-61 shooting (26.2%) from the field and forced 24 turnovers.

The women's basketball team will next head to Merchant Marine for a Skyline matchup on Wednesday, January 25th at 5:00 p.m.
