Rams Fall to St. Joe's-LI in Home Skyline Matchup

St. Joseph's-Long Island - 74, Farmingdale State - 52


FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team was upended by St. Joseph's-Long Island, 74-52, in a home Skyline Conference game this evening.

FSC (3-11, 2-7 Skyline) took an early 3-2 advantage on a layup by junior forward Tiffany Sosa (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and a free-throw by freshman guard Adrianna Romo-Leroux (Selden, N.Y.) just three minutes in.

Over the next 2:50, the Golden Eagles (8-4, 6-1 Skyline) tallied 11 unanswered points to jump in front, 13-3.

Sosa registered a layup at the end of the first quarter as they went into the second trailing by eight.

SJLI controlled play to open the second quarter as they went on a 12-2 run to open up a 20-point advantage, 27-7.

With 2:50 to play in the second quarter, a quick 6-2 run by FSC, featuring 3-pointers from Romo-Leroux and sophomore guard Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.), cut their deficit to 16.

The Golden Eagles took a 35-15 lead into the third quarter and outscored the Rams 13-5 over the first three minutes to take a commanding 48-20 advantage.

With 4:51 on the clock and Farmingdale State trailing 51-22, freshman guard Victoria Kantzian (Staten Island, N.Y.) made a jumper, Greenwald knocked down a 3-pointer and Sosa registered a pair of free-throws to cut the gap to 22.

St. Joseph's-Long Island regained a 26-point advantage, 69-43, with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The Rams outscored the Golden Eagles 9-5 down the stretch as they fell, 74-52.

Sosa tallied a team-high 14 points, while Romo-Leroux had 10 points, four rebounds and three assists. Greenwald produced nine points, four rebounds and three assists off the bench and freshman forward Lissette Cordero (West Babylon, N.Y.) recorded six points, six rebounds and three blocked shots. 

Alyssa Adomaites led the way for SJLI with 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting.

The Rams will next head on the road to play Skyline opponent Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, January 17th at 6:00 p.m.
