Rams Drop Non-Conference Game to Hunter

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team hosted non-conference opponent Hunter College this afternoon and lost, 80-46. FSC fell to 3-8, while the Hawks improved to an even 6-6 on the season.

Hunter controlled the first quarter, jumping out to a 15-point advantage just four minutes in and holding a 28-7 lead heading into the second.

Rams' sophomore guard Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.) opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 18, but the Hawks quickly responded with a 3-pointer and a free-throw to go ahead, 32-10.

Farmingdale State trailed 42-19 at the halftime break as Hawks freshman Erin Cosio had 17 points in the first 20 minutes.

In the third quarter, freshman guard Victoria Kantzian (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored FSC's first seven points as they were down 48-26 with 3:47 on the clock. 

After seven unanswered points by the Hawks, junior forward Tiffany Sosa (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) tallied a basket and a free-throw, Adrianna Romo-Leroux (Selden, N.Y.) made a layup and Greenwald knocked down a pair of free-throws to cut the deficit to 55-33.

The Rams were down 60-33 at the inception of the fourth quarter and were outscored 20-13 in fourth as they fell, 80-46.

Kantzian tallied a team-high 14 points, to go along with five rebounds. Sophomore guard Jenna Pignataro (Farmingville, N.Y.) registered 11 points, two rebounds and two assists, while Greenwald recorded eight points and five rebounds off the bench. Sosa added seven points and five rebounds for the Rams.

Alexa Charles tallied a game-high 19 points for Hunter in the victory. 

The women's basketball team next returns to Skyline Conference play when they travel to Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, January 3rd at 6:00 p.m.
