Women's Basketball Earns Conference Win Versus Old Westbury

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team picked up a 44-34 victory over Skyline Conference opponent Old Westbury on Tuesday evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. FSC improved to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while OW dropped to 0-5, 0-3

The Rams held a 4-3 advantage only four minutes in and used a pair of Lissette Cordero (West Babylon, N.Y.) baskets and layups from both sophomore guard Jenna Pignataro (Farmingville, N.Y.) and junior forward Tiffany Sosa (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) to go ahead by nine, 12-3.

Farmingdale State led 16-6 after the first quarter and allowed just one Old Westbury point in the second to extend their lead to 20 at 27-7. Sophomore guard Erin Conte (Melville, N.Y.) had four points in the quarter, while Sosa registered three points. Freshman guard Adrianna Romo-Leroux (Selden, N.Y.) and senior guard Emily Zeblisky (Northport, N.Y.) added a layup each to account for FSC's 11 points in the quarter.

The Rams had seven steals in each of the first two quarters.

After a low-scoring third, Old Westbury outscored Farmingdale State 21-9 in the fourth, cutting their deficit to as little as seven, but eventually fell, 44-34, as the Rams earned the conference win.

Sosa finished with 12 points and five rebounds, while Romo-Leroux notched nine points, seven rebounds and two steals. Conte registered six points, five rebounds, four steals and a block, Cordero recorded four points and a game-high eight rebounds and two blocked shots, and senior guard Emily Pohlaski (Huntington, N.Y.) had two points, to go along with four assists, five steals and two rebounds. Pohlaski also drew eight Panthers fouls on the night. 

Pignataro tallied two points, two rebounds and three assists. Zeblisky had two points, five rebounds and three steals and junior guard Taylah Inman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added two points and three rebounds off the bench.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Baruch College to play Skyline opponent Yeshiva University on Saturday, December 3rd at 8:30 p.m.
