Kantzian Knocks Down Buzzer-Beating 3-Pointer to Down Mount Saint Vincent

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | With the game knotted at 50-50, FSC freshman guard Victoria Kantzian (Staten Island, N.Y.) received an inbound pass with two seconds on the clock before turning and knocking down a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to propel the Rams to a 53-50 victory over Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday evening.

FSC (2-4, 1-1 Skyline) jumped out to a 7-2 advantage after sophomore guard Jenna Pignataro (Farmingville, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer to open the game, junior forward Tiffany Sosa (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) hit two free-throws and senior guard Emily Pohlaski (Huntington, N.Y.) made a jump shot.

Mount Saint Vincent (2-1, 0-1 Skyline) responded with a 9-2 run over the next 3:13 to go in front, 11-7.

The Rams trailed 13-10 after the first quarter and opened the second with a 3-pointer by junior forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) to even the score.

Following a Dolphins basket, Kantzian hit a pair of 3's in a 6-2 run to go ahead, 19-17.

CMSV was down 21-20 and closed the half on a 10-4 run as they led 30-25 at the break. Kantzian had nine first-half points for the Rams, while Mount Saint Vincent's Kayla Hanley shot 6-for-7 from the field for 16 points.

Farmingdale State was outscored 9-5 in the third quarter before opening the fourth on an 8-2 run, capped off by back-to-back 3's from Pignataro, to cut their deficit to three, 41-38.

The Rams trailed by four, 49-45, with 2:10 to play and used layups from Pohlaski and freshman forward Lissette Cordero (West Babylon, N.Y.) to knot the score at 49-49.

On the next Mount Saint Vincent possession, Hanley drew a foul and hit one-of-two at the free-throw line to go ahead, 50-49.

Cordero followed by drawing a foul of her own and knocking down one free-throw to tie the score at 50-50 to set up Kantzian's buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

Pignataro tallied a career-best five 3-pointers for a team-high 15 points, while Kantzian finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Cordero had seven points and a career-high 12 rebounds and Pohlaski filled the stat sheet with seven points, eight assists, six steals and three rebounds. 

Hanley registered 21 points and five rebounds for CMSV.

The Rams will next play host to Skyline Conference opponent Old Westbury on Tuesday, November 29th at 6:00 p.m.
