BROOKLYN | The Farmingdale State College women's basketball team lifted the lid on its 2022-23 season Tuesday night at the West Quad Center, falling by a 79-51 final to host Brooklyn College.

The Rams (0-1) had three players score in double figures on the night, including junior forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.), who led her side with 12 points and tied for the team lead with six rebounds. Freshman guard Adrianna Romo-Leroux (Selden, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting in her collegiate debut to go with six boards, while classmate Lissette Cordero (W. Babylon, N.Y.) checked in with 10 points on a 4-for-7 display from the floor. Sophomore guard Erin Conte (Melville, N.Y.) dished out six assists and collected as many caroms in the Farmingdale State backcourt.

Brooklyn (1-0) jumped out to a 22-13 lead after one period of play, and used a stretch of three-consecutive 3-point field goals in the second frame and take a 47-24 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Bulldogs took advantage of 20 FSC miscues in the opening 20 minutes by registering 23 points off turnovers to pull away.

The Rams outscored the hosts by a 15-5 margin in the fourth period, limiting Brooklyn to a 2-for-23 (.087) field-goal percentage during the 10-minute stretch.

Head coach Mark Dellecave's Farmingdale State team is right back in non-conference action on Wednesday night, when it travels to the West Side of Manhattan for a 6 p.m. tip-off at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
