Rams Drop Road Game at St. Joseph's-Long Island

St. Joseph's-Long Island - 88, Farmingdale State - 75


Patchogue, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell to Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island, 88-75, in Patchogue, N.Y. on Thursday evening. FSC dropped to 11-10 overall and 9-9 in the Skyline, while the Golden Eagles improved to 14-8, 11-8.

The Rams led 14-13 with just 1:28 remaining in the first quarter and used a pair of layups by senior guard  Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and a free-throw from freshman forward Samantha Muller (North Babylon, N.Y.) to take a six-point advantage.

SJC-LI closed the quarter with a layup and a 3-pointer by junior guard Alyssa Adomaites (East Northport, N.Y.) as they entered the second trailing by just one, 19-18.

FSC was still ahead by one, 35-34, with just over two minutes to play in the half before three points by St. Joseph's-LI gave them a 37-35 advantage. Zaborowska answered with a 3-pointer on the next possession to regain the lead, 38-37.

Farmingdale State took a 40-37 lead into the break and opened the third quarter with three straight layups by forwards Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.), Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) and Muller to take a nine-point edge, 46-37.

Following four points from the Golden Eagles, a 9-1 run gave FSC their largest lead of the game at 55-42.

Over the final 4:24 of the quarter, SJC-LI outscored the Rams 18-1 as they jumped out in front, 60-56.

After trading baskets to open the fourth quarter, back-to-back 3's by Adomaites and sophomore guard Lanyah Ford (Copiague, N.Y.) put the Golden Eagles on top by 10, 68-58, with 7:39 left.

With Farmingdale State still down by 10, 70-60, Mendoza connected on two baskets to cut the deficit to six. St. Joseph's-Long Island responded with a layup by Ford and three free-throws from Adomaites to extend their lead to 11, 75-64.

The Rams were outscored 13-11, in the final 3:30 as St. Joe's-LI went on for the 88-75 victory.

Zaborowska tallied a season-best 29 points, to go along with six steals, five assists and three rebounds, while Mendoza finished with 15 points. Freshman guard Erin Conte (Melville, N.Y.) registered nine points off the bench, Ricketts recorded nine points, eight rebounds and four assists, and Muller notched seven points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Adomaites and Ford finished with 29 and 23 points, respectively, in the win for St. Joe's.

Farmingdale State next will travel to play Skyline opponent Sarah Lawrence on Saturday, February 19th at 2:00 p.m.
