Muller Scores 31 Points in Win at St. Joe's-Brooklyn

Farmingdale State - 74, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn - 64


Brooklyn, N.Y. - Farmingdale State freshman forward Samantha Muller (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored a game-high 31 points as the FSC women's basketball team earned a 74-64 Skyline Conference win at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday night. With the victory, the Rams improved to 11-9 overall and 9-8 in conference play.

Farmingdale State controlled the first quarter and opened up a 21-9 advantage over the Bears (6-17, 5-14). Junior forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) led the way with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting, while Miller recorded seven points after going 3-for-4 from the field.

After each team hit a 3-pointer to start the second, SJC-BK scored five straight points to cut the deficit to 23-17 with 7:38 on the clock. FSC responded with a 14-0 run over the next 4:19 to take a 20-point lead, 37-17. The Rams went into the break on top, 41-23. Muller led all scorers with 18 first half points on 8-of-13 shooting.

Trailing 45-26 midway through the third, senior guard Jamie Provino (Harrison, N.Y) hit back-to-back 3's to pull SJC-BK within 13. The Bears cut the deficit to 49-41 before an Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) layup and pair of free-throws by senior guard Mackenzie Tierney (Levittown, N.Y.) put FSC back up by 12, 53-41.

Farmingdale State led by at least seven points the remainder of the game en route to the 74-64 road victory.

To go along with her 31 points, Muller had game-highs in both rebounds (15) and steals (6), while Mendoza finished the night with 15 points. Freshman forward Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) added 14 points, nine boards and five assists in the win for Farmingdale State.

Senior guard Kelly O'Donnell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a team-high 27 points for St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.

The Rams next will travel to St. Joseph's-Long Island for a Skyline Conference game on Thursday, February 17th at 7:00 p.m.
