Rams Earn 31-Point Victory Over Sarah Lawrence

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC women's basketball team earned a 76-45 home victory over Skyline Conference opponent Sarah Lawrence this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. With the win, the Rams improved to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference, while the Gryphons dropped to 4-8, 2-7.

In the opening 6:50 of the game, Farmingdale State took a 19-2 advantage. After back-to-back baskets by SLC cut the deficit to 13, FSC freshman forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) followed with a pair of free-throws and layup on the Rams' next two possessions to bring the lead back to 17, 23-16.

In a low scoring second quarter, Farmingdale State outscored Sarah Lawrence 16-11 and took a 39-18 advantage into the break. Mendoza led all scorers with 13 first half points on 5-of-10 shooting, while freshman forward Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) had six points and nine boards.

The Rams increased the lead to 65-23 after three quarters as they held SLC to only seven points. In the third, freshman forward Samantha Muller (North Babylon, N.Y.) tallied eight points and two steals for FSC.

In the final quarter, the Gryphons outscored Farmingdale State 20-11 as the Rams went on for the 31-point victory, 76-45.

Mendoza tallied a game-high 17 points after shooting 7-for-12 from the floor, while Muller finished the day with 13 points, four rebounds and three steals. Rickets notched a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

For Sarah Lawrence, freshman guard Isabel Garren (Arnold, MD) led the way with a team-high 13 points (6-for-6 shooting) to go along with a game-high four steals.

Farmingdale State will next head to Purchase College for a Skyline game on Tuesday, January 18th at 8:00 p.m.
