Women's Basketball Drops Home Game to Mount Saint Vincent

Mount Saint Vincent - 67, Farmingdale State - 51


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell, 67-51, to Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Vincent after nearly a month's long break in action this evening. The Rams fell to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference, while the Dolphins improved to 7-3, 5-3.

With the game tied at 7-7 with 7:22 to play in the first quarter, senior guard Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer to give FSC a 10-7 advantage.

Less than a minute later, consecutive layups from freshman forwards Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.), Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) and Samantha Muller (North Babylon, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State on top, 16-7.

Mount Saint Vincent trailed 18-9 with 3:48 on the clock and used a 7-0 run to close within two at 18-16.

FSC led 22-20 at the start of the second quarter and opened with six unanswered points to regain an eight-point advantage, 28-20.

Still 28-20 with 5:45 remaining in the half, the Dolphins used four different scorers in an 8-0 run to knot the score at 28-28.

Both teams recorded five points before the end of the quarter as the game was tied at 33-33 heading into the break. Mendoza and Muller registered 10 points apiece in the first 20 minutes.

Over the first 5:01 of the third quarter, each team tallied just four points as the game remained tied at 37-37.

In the final 4:19 of the quarter, Mount Saint Vincent went on a 12-2 run, including four points each from sophomore forward Melanieann Broderick (Bronx, N.Y.) and senior forward Victoria Hanley (Yonkers, N.Y.), to take a 49-39 lead.

The Rams were down 54-41 with 8:09 left to play before Mendoza tallied six straight points and Ricketts notched a layup to cut the deficit to five, 54-49.

CMSV responded with four points from Hanley to go on top by nine, 58-49, with 4:29 remaining.

Farmingdale State was held to just two points to close the game as the Dolphins went on for the 67-51 victory.

Mendoza recorded a team-high 16 points, to go along with five rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Ricketts tallied a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Muller had 12 points and eight rebounds. Zaborowska added seven points, six rebounds and four steals in the loss.

Junior guard Amber Been (Bronx, N.Y.) led the way for Mount Saint Vincent with a game-high 21 points.

FSC next hosts St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a Skyline game on Wednesday, January 12th at 5:00 p.m.
