New York, N.Y. - Farmingdale State freshman forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) was named Met Basketball Writers Division II/III Honorable Mention Player of the Week. This week's Player of the Week recipients were Fordham's Anna DeWolfe (Division I) and Lauren Schetter of Pace (Division II/III).
Mendoza leads FSC and currently ranks 11th in the Nation with an average of 22.0 points per game. She is shooting 54.3% from the floor, a mark that ranks second in the Skyline Conference, and is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game. In Farmingdale State's two games last week, Mendoza averaged a team-leading 27.5 points per game. She recorded a double-double with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds in the overtime win versus Manhattanville and followed with 29 points on 14-of-21 shooting in the non-conference victory over John Jay.
The women's basketball team next will head to the Western Connecticut Tournament on Thursday, December 30th and Friday, December 31st.
