Mendoza, Muller Lead Rams Past CCNY

New York, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team traveled to non-conference opponent CCNY on Monday evening and cruised to a 67-30 victory. FSC freshman forwards Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) and Samantha Muller (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored 25 and 20 points, respectively, to lead the Rams to the victory.

Over the first 4:25 of the game, Muller (8) and Mendoza (6) combined for 14 straight points while Farmingdale State (2-3) held the Beavers without a point.

After a three-point play by CCNY (0-2), FSC closed the quarter on an 11-4 run as they took a 25-7 lead into the second.

Muller and freshman forward Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) opened the second quarter with layups to extend the Rams advantage to 22.

With 7:06 on the clock, CCNY knocked down four 3-pointers and closed the quarter on a 12-6 run to cut their deficit to 35-19. 

In the opening 3:11 of the third quarter, Muller and Mendoza recorded six points apiece as FSC took a 47-19 lead.

After four unanswered points from the Beavers, the Rams closed the quarter with a 12-0 run to go in front, 59-23.

Farmingdale State outscored CCNY, 8-7, in the fourth quarter as they went on for the 67-30 non-conference victory.

Mendoza shot 12-for-17 from the field for a game-high 25 points, to go along with eight rebounds and two steals. Muller went 9-for-13 from the floor for 20 points in her first game of the season and also recorded five rebounds, two assists and four steals. Ricketts recorded six points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals off the bench, while freshman guards Autumn Barnes (Middle Island, N.Y.) and Jenna Pignataro (Farmingville, N.Y.) tallied four points apiece.

The Rams will next play Old Westbury (at Farmingdale State) on Wednesday, December 1st at 5:00 p.m.
