Rams Drop Conference Opener at Mount Saint Vincent

Riverdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team traveled to Mount Saint Vincent for their first Skyline Conference game of the season on Tuesday night and fell, 58-48. The Rams now stand at 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while the Dolphins improved to 3-0, 1-0.

Leading 12-9 late in the first, Mount Saint Vincent closed the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 20-9 advantage. The Rams were outscored 15-4 in the second quarter and headed into the break trailing, 35-15.

Farmingdale State quickly cut the deficit in half with a 10-0 run to start the third quarter highlighted by a pair of Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) layups and a 3-pointer from senior guard Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.).

Leading 38-27 with 3:03 on the clock, the Dolphins ended the quarter with baskets by senior forward Victoria Hanley (Yonkers, N.Y.) and junior guard Amber Been (Bronx, N.Y.) to go up by 15.

CMSV held at least a nine-point advantage the remainder of the game en route to the 58-48 victory.

Rickets led all scorers with a game-high 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting, while freshman forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) had a double-double on 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Zaborowska pitched in with 10 points and three assists in the loss.

For the Dolphins, four players scored in double-digits led by Hanley's team-high 15 points. Junior guard Kira Villegas (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists and a pair of steals. 

The Rams next will host Purchase in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, November 20th at noon.
