FSC Women's Basketball Comes From Behind to Defeat Albertus Magnus

Farmingdale State - 72, Albertus Magnus - 63


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team hosted Albertus Magnus for a non-conference game this evening and earned a 72-63 come-from-behind victory. The Rams (1-1) trailed by 10, 38-28, at the halftime break and outscored the Falcons (0-2) 44-25 in the second half en route to the non-conference win.

Trailing 6-2 just two minutes into the game, FSC junior guard Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer before junior forward Alexis Hunter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded four straight points to go in front, 9-6.

Albertus Magnus would answer with a layup from junior center Andreah Orr (Danbury, Conn.) and a 3 from junior guard Cassie Couture (Waterbury, Conn.) to take an 11-9 lead.

Trailing 13-11, Zaborowska hit her second 3-pointer of the quarter to give Farmingdale State a one-point advantage. The Falcons closed the first with back-to-back jumpers as they led 17-13 after one quarter.

Over the first three minutes of the second quarter, Albertus Magnus used an 8-3 run to extend their lead to nine at 25-16. 

The Falcons outscored the Rams by just one point over the remainder of the quarter (13-12) and took a 10-point advantage, 38-28, into the halftime break.

Hunter and Orr had 10 points apiece in the first 20 minutes.

With Albertus Magnus leading 47-38 with 4:37 remaining in the third, Hunter tallied a layup and Zaborowska was fouled and hit both free-throws. The Rams followed with back-to-back 3's by guards Nia Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jami Cardenas (Bay Shore, N.Y.) to cap off a 10-0 run and go in front, 48-47.

After the Falcons captured a one-point lead, 54-53, with 6:58 left to play, Rams' sophomore guard Imani Butts (Brentwood, N.Y.) recorded a three-point play and Hunter registered a layup to put FSC back on top, 58-54.

On the next possession, Albertus Magnus was fouled and hit 1-of-2 at the foul line, before a 7-0 gave Farmingdale State a 65-55 advantage.

The Rams held at least a seven-point lead the rest of the way as they went on for the 72-63 victory.

Hunter led the way for FSC as she tallied 20 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Miller finished with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Butts had 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Zaborowska recorded 10 points, seven assists, five steals and 12 rebounds and Cardenas added six points and eight rebounds in the win.

The Rams next travel to play in the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament at Ramapo College on Friday and Saturday, November 15th and 16th. FSC will play Johnson & Wales (RI) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while Ramapo will square off with Bryn Athyn at 7:30 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be played on Saturday at noon and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
