Farmingdale State - 67, Yeshiva - 66
Throggs Neck, N.Y. - Trailing by one with 33 seconds remaining, FSC junior guard Nia Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was fouled and hit the eventual game-winning free-throws to put the Rams ahead 67-66. In the final seconds of the game, Rams' sophomore forward Alexis Hunter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded back-to-back blocks on Yeshiva's final two shots to secure the one-point victory. Hunter tallied nine blocked shots and broke the previous school record of six in one game. The Farmingdale State women's basketball team finishes the regular season 9-16 overall and 9-9 in Skyline play and has earned the #6 seed for the playoffs.
Leading 7-6 just 3:18 into the game, FSC sophomore guard Destiny Hurt (Long Beach, N.Y.) tallied five straight points to go ahead 12-6. Leading 15-11, Farmingdale State used a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Jami Cardenas (Bay Shore, N.Y.), a layup by freshman guard Mackenzie Tierney (Levittown, N.Y.) and a jumper from Hunter to put Farmingdale State up 22-11. Over the final three minutes of the first quarter, Yeshiva (6-18, 3-15 Skyline) outscored FSC, 9-4, as they entered the second trailing by six, 26-20.
Farmingdale State opened the second quarter with a pair of free-throws from Hurt and a Cardenas layup to extend their advantage to 30-20. The Macabees would answer with a 6-0 run to quickly cut their deficit to only four.
Still leading by four, 32-28, with five minutes left, Hurt made a layup before Miller tallied a 3-pointer and a layup to give FSC a 39-28 advantage. Yeshiva closed the quarter on a 6-2 run as they trailed 41-34 at the halftime break.
The Maccabees were down 47-38 early in the third and outscored Farmingdale State 14-0 over the final seven minutes to go in front, 52-47.
Over the first 3:11 of the fourth, FSC used a 6-2 run to close within one, 54-53. After Yeshiva senior forward Michal Alge (Boston, Mass.) tallied a layup, Miller hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 56-56.
The Rams trailed 62-60 with 2:42 remaining a used five straight points from Hurt to take a three-point advantage. After the Maccabees responded with four straight free-throws to take a 66-65 advantage, Miller would be fouled and go 2-for-2 at the free-throw line to put the Rams up 67-66. In the final two seconds, Hunter would record two blocks on Alge as the Rams held on for the conference victory, 67-66.
Farmingdale State was led by Hurt, who tallied 24 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Hunter, who nearly had a triple-double with 10 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocks. Miller recorded 12 points and six assists, while Cardenas added eight points and six rebounds in the win.
Yeshiva senior guard Nicole Bick (Edison, N.J.) registered a game-high 25 points, while Alge finished with 18 points, 21 rebounds, nine assists and six steals.
The sixth seeded Rams will now travel to #3 Old Westbury for the First Round of the Skyline Conference Championship on Tuesday, February 19th at 7:00 p.m.
