#4 Amherst - 78, Farmingdale State - 37
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Two-time defending National Champion and fourth-ranked Amherst traveled to Farmingdale State this afternoon and cruised to a 78-37 non-conference victory. With the loss, the FSC women's basketball team dropped to 5-13 overall, while the Mammoths improved to 16-1.
Leading 11-10 early in the second quarter, the Mammoths recorded 18 straight points to go out in front 29-10 with 3:47 left on the clock. Farmingdale State sophomore guard Destiny Hurt (Long Beach, N.Y.) scored the only basket the remainder of the quarter as the Rams went into halftime trailing, 29-12.
In the third, seven different players scored for Amherst as they outscored FSC 27-7 and opened up a 37-point lead at 56-19. The Mammoths connected on four 3-pointers in the final quarter as they went on for the 78-37 victory.
For Farmingdale State, sophomore guard Destiny Hurt (Long Beach, N.Y.) scored 16 points, while junior guard Nia Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 14 points.
Amherst had four double-digit scorers as freshman guard Courtney Resch (San Francisco, Calif.) led the way with a game-high 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting, including 5-of-7 from behind the arc. Senior guard Maeve McNamara (Arlington, Mass.) and freshman forward Dani Valdez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) each pitched in with 13 points, while junior guard Hannah Fox (Plymouth Meeting, Penn.) tallied 10 points in the win.
Farmingdale State next will host Skyline Conference opponent Old Westbury on Saturday, January 26th at noon.
