Brooklyn - 79, Farmingdale State - 58
Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team traveled to Brooklyn College for a non-conference game this afternoon and lost, 79-58.
The Bulldogs (11-6) led 13-10 just six minutes into the game and used a layup from senior forward Jasmine Hansgen (Salt Lake City, Utah) and a free-throw from sophomore forward Chanel Jemmott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to take a six-point advantage. The Rams (5-12) responded with a 7-1 run, including five points from junior guard Nia Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.), over the next 2:29 to tie the game at 17-17.
With FSC leading by one, 22-21, early in the second quarter, Brooklyn went on a 10-2 run to open up a seven-point edge, 31-24. After trading 3-pointers, Farmingdale State used a layup from sophomore forward Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to five, 37-32. The Bulldogs would answer by outscoring the Rams 12-3 over the final 3:47 of the half as they took a 49-35 halftime advantage.
Trailing 53-37 with 8:11 left in the third quarter, Miller and sophomore guard Destiny Hurt (Long Beach, N.Y.) tallied back-to-back layups to close within 12, 53-41. Brooklyn quickly answered with layups from Hansgen and sophomore guard Taylor George (Whitehall, Penn.) to regain a 16-point lead.
The Bulldogs led 63-49 at the end of three quarters and outscored FSC 16-9 in the fourth as they went on for the 79-58 non-conference victory.
Hurt led the way for Farmingdale State as she tallied 24 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Miller finished with 18 points and five assists, while sophomore forward Alexis Hunter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 20 rebounds in the loss.
For Brooklyn, Jemmott produced a team-high 20 points, 16 rebounds and four steals, while Hansgen had 17 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
The Rams next play host to #5 Amherst on Tuesday, January 22nd at 4:00 p.m.
