Trailing 18-10 with 7:56 to play in the second quarter, a quick 8-0 Farmingdale State run on a Destiny Hurt (Long Beach, N.Y.) jumper and back-to-back 3's by Nia Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) evened the score at 18-18. Over the final 3:23, Merchant Marine outscored FSC 9-5 and took a 27-23 lead into halftime.

After a Hurt jump shot cut the Rams deficit to one, 29-28, the Mariners responded with six unanswered points to go up by seven with 4:59 remaining in the third. Each team would score once the remainder of the quarter as Merchant Marine led 37-30 heading into the fourth.

With 6:10 left on the clock, FSC junior forward Christina Rayfield (Commack, N.Y.) hit a jumper to pull the Rams within eight but a 7-0 Merchant Marine run over the next 3:05 put the Mariners on top, 51-36. Merchant Marine went on for the 53-40 Skyline Conference victory.

Hurt led the way for Farmingdale State with a team-high 20 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals.

Freshman center Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) recorded a double-double on 15 points and a game-high 23 rebounds in the win for Merchant Marine.
